SPECIAL PLACES

 Feeling so wistful one day...

it had been 3 days, after, all since holding my brushes...

so I headed for my FULL CIRCLE JOURNAL...

and layed down tissue paper over the top of some partially prepped page
and began to paint...

yesterday I went with our daughter, and son in law to HIGH HAND NURSERY!
THIS is such a special place nearby...
Everything that is INSIDE is in the old fruit packing sheds...
everything OUTSIDE is one of the most beautiful nurseries you've ever laid eyes on...
and then there is a conservatory for eating, inside or out with the best food in the land...most of which come from their gardens!

this is the TIN THIMBLE...it holds the most wondrous fiber and cloth...
and...they have the coolest classes on hand dying silk and many other kinds...

this is a darling make-shift cupboard,
just FULL of blank canvas' ;)
the kind of place you'd like to accidently get locked inside for the evening!

this is one of the wine marts nearby. this is WHY we were visiting...
our friend Kermit just opened his own mixed media PAINTING GALLERY!
and I didn't take a picture of any of that...
we were all so engaged at the wonder of things...
DON'T YA' JUST LOVE WHEN THAT HAPPENS?!

LITTLE SAIL BOATS

as this piece took all it's turns and changes...
while painting and adding tissue pattern and
various ephemera...then stepping back...
Eureka...this just needs a little sail boat sitting on the ledge!!!
My friend Yael from Israel, sent me a box one day...full of "BEACHY" finds.
ergo the seed pod for the bottom of the boat and the rusty wires hanging off the very end of the box.

photo transfer of a sailboat...i HAD to have a bit of blue in this painting ;)

 this shows the entire piece
the substrate is the end of a wooden box that we had turned into a plant holder
and then the box finally fell apart after all the watering.
but then...my husband said, "i suppose you'd like to save this and paint on it?"
with a big smile on his face, he gingerly took it apart for me and started to take out the nails...
NO NO NO...part of the charm ;)

a close-up; painted burlap, a knitting sweater pattern with directions. tissue paper pattern piece,
paint and i had to add "M" birds of course.

HAPPY SAILING THIS WEEKEND FRIENDS...
wherever that may be!
  P.S.
it reads;

"make your own day...
make your own way...
set your own sails..."

ANCIENT WALLS

i've been down with bad health...so i have been away from BLOGLANDIA...
on the mend Now...
but never deserting my art loves, even if i could make but one stroke in one day...
they all count...they all add up, and often times it's better to go slow...
whether your choice or not, hmm...

there are so many layers buried within these walls, it might almost
make ancient walls authentic ;) here

i CAN remember putting down, cheese cloth, plaster, ribbon and even beads...

i photo transferred this onto my canvas...
it's from a very special trip to Panama...

 a photo transfer from Africa...alas!
i was not there...but feel like i COULD have been when i
delve into this painting ;)

there is a thick strip of  some thing i placed,
where you can see it in the middle here?

top left hand: beads, ribbon and hand sewing...

i haven't decided on it's title yet...but they always come...

and NOW...off to visit my favorite blogs...

COURAGE and PERSERVERENCE...prevailed!!!

 Three years...off and on...

 staring at them...not liking them...

attempting not to ruin them in their entirety...

 getting there...

lots of things wrong...but where, how...?

questioning, noodling, making more hair, painting out less hair,
putting in NO HAIR (only flowers),
lessons lessons everywhere, all along...
not sure what in the world to take in, LEAVE ALONE,
paint OUT...

FINALLY...they began to sing...

YES!!!

MUST PLAY!!!

she ended up like this...going backward...
I am going to fix her flower and her lips a bit...

this was the first change I made and it looked very bad with her
abstract-y body...ergo the top is better

 one little close-up...

cover her up and then proceeded ;)

before the flower in her hair...

she is on an old cupboard door
14" X 37"

she reads;
"you must...
you KNOW...
PLAY..
EVERY day!!

40 FACES...

 THANK YOU Sharon Tomlinson...
I decided with ease to stop at 40...

I will continue to learn more and more about portraits,
(my first painting love)

this was a study (ALL OF THEM) that brought multiple gifts...
to name a few:

lighting on the piece
a mood
placement
perfect imperfections
happy accidents
searching the masters
searching for new ideas
color color color...
and loving black and white

those last notations barely skim the surface as to the wealth of information I found doing these...
as you can see there are two on the drawing board.
my hat goes off to all participants in this education as well as to others that go the extra miles!

I sent this into Cloth Paper Scissors,
it is a postcard suggestion they prompted...
it had to have something original that you painted and paper and cloth.
the magazine said, YOU WILL NOT GET THIS BACK...
we may or may not use all the entries in later issues and your
piece might show up in an ad..
this is one of those life lessons...
not such a deep or horrible one...but wanda wishes she wouldn't have given it away...
my heart must not have been ready to let her go...
so I share her with you, and read her words...
THEY ARE MEANT FOR YOU!
IF we could all gather round and create in the presence of one another...
oh what  gift!
i wish you were here
LOVE
